Family of Parishes
From Fr. John Pirt
It is with joy that I am writing to you today.
Over the past three years I have been serving the South Windsor Catholic Family of Parishes (Corpus Christi and Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St. Philiphe and Ste. Ane Thanh Vietnamese Martyrs Catholic Community). In my 35 years of priesthood, I have found that I have left a little bit of my heart in every parish I have been asked to serve. It has been a blessing to serve that family, as my first parish as a priest was in South Windsor. It has been great to reconnect with so many who remembered me from so long ago!
Recently, Bishop Fabbro approached me to see if I would agree to move from the South Windsor Catholic Family of Parishes to the Springbank Catholic Family of Parishes.
After some prayer and reflection, and recognizing that a bit of my heart is in the Springbank Catholic Family of Parishes - having served both of these parishes in the past – 2 years as an Associate Pastor at St. John the Divine (1992-1994) and for 8 years at St. George as Pastor (2004-2012), I accepted the appointment to your Family of Parishes.
As with many other Families of Parishes, emerging from Covid has been difficult. Recently I heard a statistic that only 62% of those who were coming to Mass regularly prior to Covid had returned. In looking at the situation in the Springbank Catholic Family of Parishes, post Covid, I recognize that both of our parishes have been experiencing great financial difficulties.
In looking to the future, I am open to hear your concerns and suggestions, and I believe that only by working together we can overcome these challenges.
I am looking forward to meeting you; for some it is reconnecting with you!
